Roll Nine

Hot on the heels of that ethereal color yesterday, Roll Nine is now up.

I tried to do some documentary photography at a Community League Picnic, but wasn’t largely happy with the results.

(No, I don’t take perfect pictures every time I press the shutter…)

I did, however, get a few decent portraits of the gang…so here they are.

Please go and have a look!

    Hi Mark,

Gotta say…… in case you needed someone to say it..I don’t think this lens (which isn’t top secret anymore 😉 is doing you any favours especially when compared to your shots with the 50 ‘lux. Between the film grain, the out of focus areas and the scanner my eyes don’t see any cowbell coming together with this roll (composition and subjects excluded of course).

Also just had a look at ‘Grizzly’ – very nice!! That camera, film and scanner are definitely working for you.

    All the best.

I like the first shot of these Mark. Even though it appears overexposed it seems to suit the smile, blonde hair and composition of your son in a classical sense. Just something about that image.

As for the lens it seems to render better indoors and suspects it is to do with it’s ability to deal with highlights (though just assuming that given I don’t what was happening at the time of taking these).

I’m with Jason though……just love my 50 lux ASPH, even on the MM.

      Jason and Andy,

Yeah…in the interests of full disclosure, I purposefully “leaked” the lens on the 50-Roll page. It is certainly an interesting bird, but a 50-Lux it is not!

Generally speaking, I agree with (and appreciate!) both of your comments. Roll Nine was a bit of a failed experiment that didn’t really come together for me…but I thought I’d post them anyway for posterity’s sake.

In any case, I think there was some user error here, as I did not realize how blown out #’s 1 and 2 were until I looked at them this morning on my main computer (I had quickly processed them on my laptop in a dark room…) I have re-processed them to pull back some of the highlights.

      Hope you are both well,

I liked it with blown highlights, and I like it now as well…still same comments re #1. Really like this one.
