Chicago, IL

Oot-and-aboot on our recent trip–conditions were mostly rainy, but I had a chance to shoot a few rolls with the Hassy.

A historic city, with some interesting contrasts–beach right around the corner from downtown!

The smiley guy who helps you part with your money is Dan Tamarkin–drop him a line if you are in the neighborhood.

I hope you enjoy,

Nice collection Mark. Not having been to Chicago it’s a nice mix and have a sense for the city. Like Hershey’s, the archways and reflections are the picks for me. Really like the how this film renders colours against those creams and sandstone tones.

Got to use the OM2 over the weekend and it’s a great little camera. Get two roles back tomorrow so very curious to see how the lens performs (Zuiko 1.4 50mm). The shutter click on it is magical!! Takes you back in time.

      Thanks Andy!

The Drake Hotel is also super-historic: Second place in the USA that started serving alcohol when Prohibition was lifted!

Anyway, the OM series is just fantastic…certainly wouldn’t sell mine for any reason. Definitely a keeper.

      Looking forward to some pics,

Have you seen “Lawless”? Tom Hardy is in it and a true story around the prohibition era based in counties just outside Chicago. A bit voilent though depicts that time period.

Well thats the benchmark when it comes to that era!

Seriously considering the 100mm f2 Zuiko…bit pricey though it has certainly got my attention! Any experience with it?

It’s a contemplative set, Mark. I like them all.

I have to think that the images reflect your mood when you were there, no?

As for “Mr. Smiley”, I hope you sent him a copy of his portrait.

      Thanks Peter–

“Contemplative” is certainly a good word–it was very therapeutic; Walking around in silence just watching and observing…Very nice. I wish we all had more time for that sort of thing!

As for Mr. Smiley…he certainly has a copy. In exchange, he gave me a coupon for $10 off the purchase of a new M-P.
