Why I hate Slide Film – Part I

Expensive.

Finicky.

Unforgiving.

Hard to scan properly.

And you can’t push exposure in post.

But when it works out,

Maaaaaaan…..

(And no, the white balance isn’t off–there was just a forest fire “haze” over everything all week…)

Makes me wonder how much haze I will get over the next 2 weeks as we travel around the west. It’s yellowish fog in the mornings here, even though the fires are about 75+ miles away, they have been burning for days.

Lovely stuff. The texture of this film (as seen by the scanner anyway) is rather nice. Slides make a lot of sense if you are able to get your exposure right. In fact, a lot of news photographers used slide film, which I initially found surprising. But it really works.

Too bad there’s no much room for film in modern press photography. Photojournalism, yes; news, no. I hope to be proven wrong, though!
