The Voigtlander 50mm 1.1 or the artisan 50 1.1… the decision is difficult as to which one to buy.

For $400 CAD, the 7Artisans lens is a no-brainer. It is small, light, and EXTREMELY well constructed–consider me impressed.

I have not had a lot of time with it, but there are two three four things to be aware of:

      1. It is definitely “glowy” wide open, but sharpens up nicely by f/1.4

      2. Out of the box, it is coma-adjusted for 2m. I adjusted mine for around 1.5, as I usually shoot closer than 2m.

      3. The filter size is slightly unusual, at 55mm.

      4. The aperture ring: Clickless, and logarithmic in nature. In other words, the distance between f/8 and f/16 is about 5mm of travel, and the (tiny) stops in between are unlabelled. As such, it is a bit of a guess stopped down that far. Probably best to use on a metered camera…

I have not used the Voigt; but my experience with this product has being very positive thus far.

OK, OK, it’s time to “officially” protest… there is ENTIRELY too much cute at your house, you need to dial it down a little. 🙂
