Remember the video series where that blender company would intentionally grind up expensive, brand-new, and hard-to-find electronics, just to prove that their blenders were up to the task?
…Well, this is kind of like that, except that I periodically often test new gear to determine whether it works. For me.
Ahem.
Anyhoo…somehow I always thought that if I ever bought a 35mm lens for the Nikon system, it would absolutely be the Sigma Art;
But this ain’t it.
However, this one is smaller, lighter, cheaper, and probably just as sharp. And the background blur isn’t all that bad either.
And I’m not telling what it is.
🙂
Ok fine…it’s the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G ED FX (whew!) and it works on everything to date…including the all-important film bodies.
Yay.
This is Fuji Industrial 400 shot at ISO 320.
Because.
I considered the 1.8 FX when I was looking for a 35 for my F5. I landed on the AF-D 35/2 (probably doesn’t work on the newer bodies). But the 1.8 is no slouch. I’m sure it is waaay quieter too. I actually kind of liked the Nikon 35/1.4 as well (but it was huge and $$$).
Either way, yay for 35mm!!
Thanks Jordan.
With the Sigma around, the Nikon 35/1.4 was never on the radar…but at basically half the price of the ART, this Nikon 1.8G really seemed to fit the bill.
I probably would have sprung for the Sigma if I thought I was going to use it a ton, but I haven’t convinced myself I am truly a “35mm shooter” yet.
Incidentally, the Sigma 35 Art is also the last Sigma lens that will work properly on the F100 bodies. Everything thereafter (85, 135, 105, etc…) is all electronically actuated, and the aperture setting will not be functional as a result.
At least you’re not charging for lens info, like the other dude LOL
😀
